Fuel Strike Imminent. Keep Calm and Cycle Instead

keep calm and cycle instead

Fuel tanker drivers have voted overwhelmingly to go in strike in a row over terms and conditions and safety, union Unite said today.

Around 2,000 members of Unite at seven companies have been voting on whether to launch the first national campaign of action for over a decade.

Unite drivers supply fuel to 90% of the UK’s forecourts and the union said a strike could close up to 7,900 petrol stations.

Unite is unlikely to name any strike dates until it has held meetings with local union reps over the next few days.

The Government has announced that soldiers are being lined up to stand in for the tanker drivers if strikes go ahead.

Perhaps instead of queues at petrol stations people would be better off forming a queue at their local bike shop! Those of you who already cycle, keep being awesome and enjoy passing the petrol queues on the strike days!
